My Kindle cover

Today..

I woke up in the mood for sewing.
Got delayed by moody espresso machine, which only resulted in moody me.
Found the idea for today’s sewing project – a cover for my Kindle + pockets for important stuff like pen, lip gloss (I do own several as I really like them, but rarely use) and cute notes; just to carry them easier in my bag.

Although I had something more girly+romantic in mind, I couldn’t resist the combination of these two fabrics.
I plan on making a gents version for Mr.A, as soon as I go fabric shopping.

The anatomy of jewelry

Did you ever feel simple joy just by seeing some wonderful colors or a perfectly balanced color palette?
I get that feeling quite often. It's the emotion, the joy, my heart even starts beating faster - just by writing this I get a little bit excited and I also realize something about me - I'm a color junkie. There, I said it! :)
Lately (for about a year), I'm into pastels..especially pink+mint. This is why I made these bubblegum colored earrings and ring today.

Mia, life as a digital illustration

Well really, it was about time I helped Mia's transition from a sheet of paper into the computer. This is my first try ever so bear with me, as I know that the result is extremely simple, but incredibly cute.

As a digital illustration, Mia will charm business cards and thank-you notes.

She will add a little something special to my packaging.

And she'll also spice up the blog a bit, as this is her home!

Apple Pillow

Remember Elsa? Today, we spent some time together while making my first pillow case. Oh, and Natasha (my cute needle-pillow helper from Zebruca) helped too. :)

I'm planning on making two of them for our living room couch, but until then this one looks really nice on our reading chair in the bedroom.

In the mood for winter

Ever since the end of Autumn I start to dream of wonderful winter coats and hats. I love them both and besides boots they are my favorite winter items. Although I own several winter coats and jackets, I’m just starting to catch up on the hat front. It’s all about getting cozy with wonderful patterns, cuts and shapes.

And today, I'll let Mia show you what I mean.

Mia is wearing a blue winter coat, with red buttons and collar, red knee boots and a wonderful retro inspired hat.

Austrian Winter Wonderland

We were supposed to go yesterday to visit a friend, but instead we went today. Sundays are always good days for seeing old friends, don't you think?
So off we went to Austria!
Well, it's not such a big deal, as Munich is really close to the border and our destination is about a two hour car drive away.
Although we arrived home late in the evening and I didn’t get to make anything today for TAD, I said to myself why not share some of the pictures I took today in a creative way with you!

Gingham heart shaped elbow patches

We had planned to visit a friend this weekend, but there was a change of plans and we ended up staying home, watching Community episodes, eating snacks and drinking peppermint tea.

But there is one plan I stack to, and that’s adding these heart shaped gingham elbow patches onto one of my grey cardigans. They look really cute and I’m thinking of dressing-up the buttons as well.

I got the idea from A beautiful mess, so you can check out the DIY and try to make your own. I would love to see the result.

Mia earrings

Today..

I received not one, but two packages with my latest buys. All I’m going to say is that it involves pretty dresses, charming patterns and a faux fur (which seems to become the new black :p) hat with cute ears on top.
I wrote tons of emails. Maybe not tons, more like 10, but still..
I made these cute Mia earrings (as promised) which I had in mind for some time.

As shrink plastic is kind of a sensible material I had to redo one of the designs.
I went out with a friend and discovered a lovely cafe that had this wonderful menu display idea – the lists of beverages and cakes were listed in old books. Quite charming!

The Lady and the cat

stood about 5 five minutes in front of the editing page and thought about how to begin this post and not complain about the weather.

Let me tell you about Mia. She is this charming lady that loves to dress up, be friendly and have fun. So, today I drew her in a long sleeved pink dress with laced hem and a new hairstyle – you know, normally she wears her hair Princess Leia style.

You may have noticed her cute little friend, Mr. Muffles the cat. Like every cat, he enjoys the simple things in a cat’s life, like long naps on the couch, eating snacks about any time and watching TV.

The illustration is hand drawn on shrinking plastic and I think I’ll turn this one into a brooch, but I’m planning on making the first Mia rings these days and even some more earrings designs.

Thing a day, flowers and challenges

Well, it's that time of the year again.
For the last two years, February has been Thing-a-day month for me.
If you haven't heard already, Thing-a-day is " an open space that enables people to get together virtually and participate in a creative sprint to make one new thing a day and post it to a collective blog space" that takes place all through February and this year it reached it's sixth edition. Quite the challenge, right?

My first thing for this month are these lovely paper napkin green flowers. Today, I was in the mood for working with paper and I guess flowers are easy to make and look really pretty.

I'm thinking of making more and turning them into a spring garland or use them in my packaging. What do you think?

I would have loved to have a top notch plan for what I'll be making this month, so that everything I'll make will come together in a cohesive way, but my organizational skills will stop at making lists and properly store my pictures in designated folders on my computer.

As I will probably be guided by my mood in deciding what to make, I guess it's only fair to say that it will be a moody 29-days ride. :)

Movies and weekend wishes

I love winter, especially when it's just taking autumn's place.
I love the first snow, but only until it starts melting.
I love making snowmen and snow angels.
I love winter accessories and I love winter weekends.
I love it when it's too cold to go outside so you stay in, get cozy, drink hot beverages, even go shopping (online shopping that is) and watch movies.

So, what do you say for some movie recommendation? I promise them to be fun and entertaining.

1. Annie Hall - a wonderful movie, like all Woody Allen movies. It's witty, it has great dialogue, it's a classic, it's wonderful.

I know that most likely you've seen these movies already, but if you run out of ideas I believe they are worth a second view. Tested and proved! :)

Meet Elsa, my super duper sewing machine

I've been looking for her for some time now. And here she is, beautifully residing in my workspace. Elsa is home. She's neat, quite smart and I can see the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

I must confess, Elsa is my first sewing machine and I'm just starting to learn all the sewing do's and don'ts even though I've been around sewing machines since I was a few years old. Both my granny and my mom used to saw on those beautiful vintage sewing machines, but I was too busy day-dreaming back then to try and steal some tips and tricks. But I guess it's never too late to start.

Just as I hoped, I love sewing. It's so much fun and it calls for a lot of precision, straight cuts, preparation, quality tools and knowing your fabrics, tensions and techniques. Sometimes, I get the feeling that this is an engineer's job. :)

Although not my first sewing project, this is the one I like the most - my first tote. I used Ikea fabrics and on one side the tote is black and on the other is white with leaves pattern. The bow is there for the sole purpose of making the bag prettier.

I just love trying new things, new techniques and materials. I believe it helps keep our minds and creativity fresh, in shape and you may be surprised at the things you start to love.

So here's this week's question: what new things or techniques are you trying or thinking of giving a chance?

Mia - the girl that could

Lately I've been feeling like designing more accessories around the lovely Mia.
As she is the girl that loves to change her hair color and day-dream, I went from black hair to Spanish red and then to turquoise blue. Pretty awesome, right?

I really like working with shrink plastic (more details about this magical medium here) and drawing pretty dresses for Mia. The whole experience is almost magical and I can only hope that some of that magic will be felt by the lovelies who choose to wear Mia and share their awesome adventures with her.

Working with polymer clay is great. I really like mixing colors in the search for the perfect shade, shaping cute faces for Mia and her gorgeous hair.
Sure, it takes a lot of patience and time since I am kind of a slow craft girl. I enjoy taking my time, especially with polymer clay, keep modelling and shaping it until I get the desired shape, with no wrinkles or lint on the surface, so that my customers can enjoy Mia at her best.

New year, old habbits

Although a bit late, I want to wish you all a wonderful + full of magic + dreams + good things New Year!

In Germany, pigs are a symbol of good luck! :)

For some reason, I don't feel the beginning of this year as a fresh new start, more like the "to be continued" part of 2011. Well, sure..that's what it actually is. But, for me, usually the new year comes with that felling and smell of new beginnings, if you know what I mean.
Not this January, not for me.
But, that's quite grand actually.
I translate it in finishing old projects, continuing to do what I love and continuing to learn about myself, those around me and lots of new things.

As for resolutions, I do have a few. Some are the same as last year, like exercising more, eating better and becoming more organized.
Others are new: becoming best friends with my new sewing machine, creating more wonderful and lovely Mia accessories and maybe even introducing some of her quirky friends, stop buying based on impulse, see my friends more often, send traditional postcards and some others.

My Christmas Baubles

Tonight's the night.
With carols in the background, pretty lights by the window and hot winter spiced drinks, this evening we are decorating our Christmas tree. Can't wait!

Usually, I decorate the Christmas tree with my dad, but since this year we are away from home, I'm decorating the tree with the other man in my life. And, I guess new traditions come to be and that is a wonderful thing.

Although I did make some clay tree decorations, this year I'm more into baubles.
Last year, I bought a big box of red baubles and this year I decorated them with gold paint. It's really fun and if it wasn't for all the other preparations and things that need to be done, I wouldn't have stopped from painting them.

I got the idea for the retro design from say yes to hoboken, where I'm sure you'll find some inspiration, too. I made the polka dot design, with small and big dots, using a brush and since dip-dying was such a huge trend this year and I really love it, I used the technique to decorate my Christmas ornaments.

For the dip-dying part I've put some paint into a plastic bauble-half and inserted the ornament I wanted to decorate. Then I just pulled it out and hang it out to dry. It's as simple as that.

Christmas Swap

This year, again, I participated in the Christmas Swap organized by Revista Atelierul. Well, actually to be honest, I organized it and because swaps are always fun, I wanted to be a part of all the action.

My gift came all the way from the Czech Republic, from Raluca aka Murmu and it came all pretty wrapped.

And a handmade brooch with a cute deer-girl to go perfectly with my deer-inspired accessories collection..

Oh, the lovely package included some very delicious treats, such as marzipan cakes and ginger bread, but they didn't make it to the photo shot! *blush*

White Winter

Winter time can and should be a magical time. Most of the times we may need to choose for ourselves to see it this way, magical, sparkly and cheery, but this doesn't make it any less real.
One of the things that makes winter so special is snow, especially the first snow of the season. I have this dear memory from when I was a child, of waking up on a Saturday morning and all the houses, hills and all I could see out my window was covered in white, fresh, fluffy snow. It was somethings special - me standing in my pj's by the window, admiring the wonderful new color of the everyday scenery, while the house was warm and filled with an apple and cinnamon scent.

Sometimes, we find ourselves putting too much pressure on getting into the Christmas spirit. But, at some point we figure it out - Christmas isn't about shopping for expensive presents, looking for the perfect symmetrical tree and it's not even about so much food. I guess there really isn't a magical formula for getting into the Christmas spirit. But, I like to believe that it is a choice we make. We decide to keep old, beautiful traditions. We decide to do at least one act of kindness. We decide to consume less and be wiser about the gifts we offer to our dear ones. We decide to spend holidays with family and friends. We decide to cook lovely meals and eat just enough. We decide to enjoy the sparkly light that shine on every street. We decide to reach for the inner child in ourselves and just enjoy.

There are wonderful and amazing people and things happening all around us. We just need to look at it all, stop putting pressure on ourselves, do what we like, eat colored candy and drink cinnamon flavored milk/coffee, keep an old tradition, start a new one, smile and have fun.
White Winters are the best!

Winter in lovely colors

Today I have a quick post to share with you some of the lovely handmade goodies I prepared for this season - the wonderful winter and holiday season that is.

It all started with me trying to pick a set of colors for this season. Mind you, this is no easy task.
But as I mixed some polymer clay colors I really liked the results. So I decided to share the love and you can find all these lovelies in my shop. If you're looking for something more specific, color or shape wise, do not hesitate to write me an email with the details.

I mostly focused on whites and greys. Working with white clay is more challenging, even when making smaller items. This is because I work really hard to keep away from small dust particles and the likes, as this kind of stuff has the nasty tendency to stick to clay. But not on my watch, no sir.
These lovely earrings are specially made for this season, but they work well all year long, don't you think so?
And this is just another things that makes them the perfect gift. Just saying. :)

Warm tones are also important during winter time. They makes us feel warmer and jolly. The collar-like necklace and earrings are made with vintage elements and Czech glass beads and they do look pretty.

This is it for today, but don't go too far away, as pretty soon I'll tell you more about the holiday decorations I'm working on.

Snowflakes and deers

Today's post is mostly a show and tell one.
Last weekend I visited Andreea from Cinnamon&Cloves at a local craft fair here in Munich - Munikum.

I was looking forward to visiting a craft fair here, in Munich, and it turned out to be as I expected: cozy but not too crowded, friendly designers with quality and pretty affordable products, a wonderful selection and a full variety of handmade goodies.

As for me, I had a wonderful Sunday afternoon with Andreea and I also came home with some lovely handmade goodies.

The winter felt necklace and deer brooch from Cinnamon&Cloves.
The necklace makes me think of big fluffy pearls, as it's so soft, but light. And I simply adore the blue felted snowflake ball.

Maybe you remember my obsession with deers. If so or if you aren't a stranger to obsessing over a certain something, I'm sure you'll understand why I couldn't resist buying this cute and pink ring from FunStyle, too. Obsessions are meant to be fed, right?

Random thoughts

Suggestion for a perfect evening inside - sitting comfortably on living room couch, under favorite white fluffy blanket, enjoying a hot cup of tea, eating candy and watching favorite tv shows. You know, getting cozy.

Learning new things is awesome. Also, having friends that teach you new things and reminding you that what you do matters, is even better!

I really need to reorganize my workspace. It's been too long since I last changed something in there. Three weeks it really is too long, right?

I know, I know..this post doesn't really make any sense. I blame it on the sugar rush.
But I do hope you enjoyed my latest handmade polymer clay blossoms, cause they do make a great gift (just a thought!) and lovely earrings.

Oh dear, how I love pearls! They are simple, yet so gorgeous and precious. Just looking closely to one you can find yourself easily mesmerized.
This is why it's always a treat to work with pearls.

Carefully, I chose each and every pearl for its beauty, in delicate shades of white, rosaline and powder rose. I also added lovely agate stones and filigree charm into the mix and transformed them into a must-have two-strand gorgeous bracelet.

As we ladies do love our earrings, I made this ready-to-be-adored pair of earrings to match the pearly bracelet.

Not only precious and pampering like, these two pieces make for a lovely gift. Just saying. :)

The Mittenwald getaway

This is what I learned this weekend - Bavaria has the most pittoresque towns and villages - a true getaway bliss with magazine-like decorated hotels and guesthouses.
Our destination for the weekend was a small town, just an hour drive away from Munich. Mittenwald is this lovely little town situated on the northern foothills of the Alps, which make it a perfect holiday destination.
It is quite charming with its painted houses, narrow streets, welcoming and chic coffee shops and its small but fancy boutiques.

Mittenwald it is also world wide known for the wonderful violins made here. This is why violins are on display all over the town - painted on houses, as door knobs in local restaurants or even sculpted from huge tree branches. Just by walking on the streets of lovely Mittenwald you can stumble upon the home and shop of a few violin makers, that keep the tradition alive.

Most of the houses, hotels and guesthouses in Mittenwald are wonderfully painted with scenes from fairy tales, everyday life, but mostly I found that the drawings have religious motifs.

Since the weather was truly lovely, we went for a walk in the woods, to the Lautersee lake.
Nature really is amazing!

The rest of the weekend was about great company, good food (those Bavarian huge portions are getting to me!), minigolf and just relaxing and enjoying the moment.

Candy, turquoise and pure lovelyness

Surely, by now you know of my love for handmade goodies and that Kittenhood and Miss Babacilu with their cute, lovely and delicate work are two of my favorite designers.So, here they are, as promised, my latest jewelry additions.

I even had the opportunity to meet with Daria from Kittenhood in a cute coffee shop in Brasov. She is just as lovely, cute and fashionable as you can see on her blog. Our date was even sweeter as we swapped a few handmade goodies - a true delight!

As my need for lovely necklaces keeps on growing, I dreamed and wished for this lovely piece made by Miss Babacilu to be mine. And so it did, as Miss B is truly a sweetheart.
I also received these fun colored hairpins and my new favorite pair of earrings - pink, what else?!

Honey, I'm home!

Oh dear, it's been too long since my last post here!
If you too own a blog, you already know the tricky dynamics of writing - the more often you do it, the easier and natural it gets. Since I haven't wrote anything in a while, it is a bit hard for me to start again. But enjoying a warm cup of tea and a cupcake really helps.

What have I been up to for the last six/seven weeks?
Well, I was back home in Romania where I spent all of my time with my family, meeting with old and new friends and a lot of other fun and time-consuming activities.

Now, I do plan on getting back to work, both creating new things and writing.
Oh, and I also plan to share with you some of the new lovely additions to my handmade jewelry collection and I'm preparing for you a very special giveaway!

School and the things we learn

Mia likes to spend many hours between books.
Favorite location - the library.
Plays strategic games and draws tons of polka dots on all her books .

She owns a magic case for all her crayons - she can find there all the colors her hearts desires! Isn't that neat?
Sometimes, I let her borrow my old school uniform.
Education is important, but why not do it in style?

I guess we all learn a lot of things, everyday, all the time from out parents, friends, lovers, from all the people that we meet in our journey through life, from books and from nature..even long after school is over. Or, at least, we should learn, because yes, there are so many useful, life-changing things and answers for long-asked-questions just in our reach. And the best part is that in all this we get to know and discover who we are!

Heart-shaped Mia illustrations

I will not begin this post by pointing out how long it's been since my last post or how I missed writing here. Oh dear, I've just done it, haven't I? :)

For the first week of September I'll be doing what I do - drawing Mia's different personalities, eating cupcakes and blogging all about it - from a lovely house in the Bavarian countryside.
Just my luck (yes, I am quite the drama queen!) on our first day here it's raining. But no worries, I have Mia here with me to cheer me up. She is quite the charmer you know?

Sometimes, when drawing her, I kinda think that she is made with sparkles and sunshine and due to the awesome nature of shrinking plastic, she's kind of magical too.
I took all that, added the whimsical summer-sea hair, lots of love and made these pretty earrings.

Back to the classics

Here I am, back to business as usual after a long and interesting weekend. We had a good friend of ours over and decided to go visit Dachau. This is a town near Munich, where the memorial site of the first concentration camp is located.

The Memorial Site takes the visitor through the path of new arrivals to the camp - following the leitmotif of the "Path of the Prisoners". Only two of the barracks were rebuild, while the other 32 are indicated by concrete foundations.

The Memorial Site on the grounds of the former concentration camp was established in 1965 on the initiative of and in accordance with the plans of the surviving prisoners who had joined together to form the Comité International de Dachau. (source Dachau official website).

It was an interesting experience and, as it can be expected, quite overwhelming.

You may not know this about me, but my full name is Anca-Maria. So, yesterday (as it was my name day) I was a bit pampered - delicious pancakes for a late breakfast, a long and lovely walk in Nymphemburg's garden in spite of all the rain and a yummy home cooked meal in the evening.

Summer days here in Munich haven't been so summery. The weather has been quite crazy, with dark skies and lots of rain..but just a few minutes later, it all gets really bright and sunny. This goes on and on all day!

I guess life can be that way sometimes - you only get rain when you feel like sun bathing. But, one should keep looking and not give up, as sunshine is just about to burst and brighten your day and life!

DIY Dyed PomPoms

Here they are, as promised, the oh-so-perfect-for-summer dyed pompoms and the making process!
They are really easy and fun to make and the best part is that you can use the pompoms in so many ways - as pins, brooches, necklaces or even shoe accessories. You can use them to add pretty details to a package or even make a lovely garland. There really are no limits!

Materials you'll need:
- White cotton fabric
- Scissors
- Needle and thread
- Fabric paint
- Small kitchen/craft bowl for mixing the paint

Add some good music and sparkle everything with some cheery mood and you are good to go!

First things first, we make the pompoms! With a pencil or crayon draw abut 9 circles on your fabric, for each pompom. Cut out the circles.

Now, it's time to sew the pompoms together. Fold in half one of the fabric circles and then fold it again. Then you start sewing it on another circle (which will be the base of the pompom) making sure it is centered in the middle. Repeat these steps with another three circles.

Now, you still need to sew another four pieces to make the pompom fluffier. For this you need to sew the folded circles above the other ones, just not straight on top on them, but between them so that they get a nice look.

Ta-da! We have cute white and ready to be dyed pompoms!

Next, I moved the crafting lab in the kitchen. I mixed my paints with warm water and added a little bit more of color as they will not have the same intensity on the fabric when dried.

Now, the fun part - dip dyeing! In order to color the pompom you just need to fold it and immerse it in the bowl of paint. If you wish to color just the edges touch gently the surface of the liquid and if you wish a more colorful pompom, dip it deeper. :)
For dyeing in two or more colors, you need to separate the pompom layers and dip them by themselves!
The rest is up to your imagination, mood and color feel!

After all this dipping and immersing the pompoms need to get dry. This can take about 4-6 six hours, just to be sure! :)

Here are my pompoms:

And the uses I found for them: a lovely touch to a white pillow, pretty-up the wrapping of a package, add color to a favorite blouse and a hair-pin!

Honey, I'm home!

So here I am, back to our lovely home in green Munich.
It was so great to be back home, seeing our parents, meeting with all our friends, walking through the streets of charming Brasov and just being surrounded by loved and dear ones. Although we had a short stay, it was great!
One, as an expat, has the tendency to miss home once in a while.

Somehow - I have absolutely no logical explanation for this, except that maybe I was too lazy - I have no photos from our trip. None, whatsoever! It's one of those things that just happen.

Remember me telling you I didn't find a lovely party dress in Munich? Well, in my home town (Fagaras) there is this cute little shop with the most gorgeous party/occasion dresses and after just 10 minutes I found a cute dress. Maybe it's not exactly what I had in mind, but I find it quite pretty and it's really comfy to wear.

Especially for the happy event, I had my black suede leather high-heels, a lovely suede clutch and the lovely cherry blossom earrings with rosaline swarovski pearls.

I'm counting on receiving some photos from the wedding to share them with you. It's was such a lovely event and we had a great time.
Normally, I'm not crazy about weddings, but things are different when the ones getting married are two of our best friends! :)

Experimenting with dye

Although it was Sunday, all day, yesterday I was in the mood of playing with dye. And I had so much fun with it!
First, I cut out tons of fabric circles and then I sew them together into lots of pompoms - aren't pompoms the cutest?
Then, I transformed my kitchen into this cute dyeing lab, preparing colors and dyeing my oh-so-lovely pompoms! At one point I was feeling like I was in a regular old school apothecary and working on really important stuff!

Oh, and the main reason for my absence is that I spent most of my time going from shop to shop looking for a lovely party dress, as I'll be attending the wedding of two very dear friends this weekend. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed as my search failed and I couldn't find an elegant dress that I liked. I guess I can be quite picky sometimes, but surely the variety of dresses I found here is poor and somewhat old fashioned.
As the wedding will take place back home, at the end of this week we will fly to Romania for a short visit. I'm looking forward to seeing my family and friends.

Handmade goodies

Hello lovelies!

Today's post is about awesomeness and a bit of show&tell! :)

Let's start with the beginning. When I started to slowly discover the wonderful handmade world I stumbled upon some really great designers whose work I fell in love with. One of these designers is Cristina aka Kittn and she and her work have been and still are such an inspiration to me.

If you visit her kitten-kingdom you'll discover her wonderful life-inspired designs. And if you take a closer look you'll find that her work has such deep meanings and messages while being innocent.
Also, you get to read her wonderful soul written stories about life, about the important things, about her work and lately about her oh-so-cute-can't-wait-to-meet-her/him-kittn-baby.

Yeah, I do think Cristina is a awesome, brave and talented person. This is why I wanted to share with you some of the lovely things I have from her.

First, the hug-me pillow that has written on one side the most cute statement - Messy kitchen, wonderful lover and has the cutest kittn-girl on the other side.

Next, my new favorite tees - the Soldier of love tee and the Coffee in Park tee (perfect for a coffee junkie such as myself). I love these designs, the colors, the shape and fabric and most of all, I really like the technique Cristina used to paint her designs.

And to top it all, I received a lovely inspirational illustration - it's always good to know that the powerful and skilled ones are on your side, right?

7 inspiration sources - tried&tested

Which of us creative creatures haven't stumbled upon an inspiration block? We have the tendency to get caught in our everyday life and chores, somewhere between needing to clean the house or to go out and buy groceries - well, you get the picture. Other times, we set so high expectations for ourselves to make the most original-brilliant-revolutionary item ever, that we get to that point where we are the ones that get in the way of our creativity.
Yeah, it can be kinda hard sometimes..But there's no need to start panicking. Each of us has it's own path and way of dealing with this. We need to grow, pass our own rites of passage and in order to do it right there are no shortcuts. I believe the most important thing is to remind ourselves why we love doing this, believing in our work, get back to the basics and just play.

And because I love lists - I mean, who doesn't, right? - here are 7 inspiration sources, tried and tested.

Get a hobby. For a long time I thought at my handmade activity as a hobby, but actually the truth is that when you start selling and this is your main source of income, it stops being a hobby. Of curse, I really love everything that my creative business implies but having a hobby it's quite healthy and also good for business. So now you are reading the blog of an amateur cupcake baker :)
Take pictures of...everything. Carry a small camera with you at all times and take pictures of all things you find inspiring. Keep only the really good photos and this will help you see how wonderful and lovely everything is. This one is from April from BlacksburgBelle (do check her blog, it's full of inspirational and helpful advice) but it made so much sense to me that I had to share it.
Check out brick and mortar stores, the mainstream or the indie ones, whatever works for you. It's a good place to observe the trends, the way things are displayed and maybe do a little bit of shopping. Wait, what? Who wrote that? ;)
Do something new, learn a new skill. This can really stimulate your creativity and who knows what revolutionary items you might create.
Spend quality time with other creative spirits. Maybe you're thinking that creativity is not contagious, but it's not all so black and white. My best ideas have come to me while bouncing thoughts (usually non-related with the result) with friends and creative types.
Stop comparing your work with others. Sometimes we get overwhelmed by other creative awesomeness and we start putting ourselves down - there's no way I'll be able to make something that great or that better. But, usually this is not true. Just try to stay away from this slippery slope - you are wonderful and you can do great things! But in order to unleash your potential you need to find and focus on your own style and perspective.
Step away from the computer. That's right. Right now, get up and go enjoy something: some fresh home made lemonade, a yummy cupcake, read a book, a magazine, spend some quality time with yourself and free your mind.

One of the many things I learned since I started my journey in the handmade world is that sharing is super awesome! So, when I found out that Ishtar was hosting a lovely swap, I jumped to the opportunity.

It's all about that tingly warm feeling of giving something you made and put together, while having so much fun, to someone who will appreciate and cherish it. And in return, you also get something really special. How do you say no to that?!

All participants were to make a lovely package with three items: something handmade, a postcard or photo and something sweet from her or his country/city.
I've put together a postcard which illustrates old Munich, a cameo handmade brooch and gummi bears! :)
In return, I received from Alicia from Collage de memories a lovely scrapbook postcard, a really cute handmade clamp and it's almost like Alicia has super powers, because she sent me the most delicious teas, also her favorites!

Home of bake-o-rama

Normally, I am not such a huge fan of showing my home, the bits and bites of my everyday life, or even me. I don't really know where this comes from, but I guess I like to keep some things to myself. But, since I've started this blog I began to see things a little bit differently. I find great joy in sharing with you some of the things I do, that I like, that I own and especially the things I make.
This is why, today I invite you to see what could probably qualify as the world's smallest kitchen - my cozy kitchen and home of bake-o-rama (aka my hobby). It is quite small, but I really like it and enjoy cooking and baking there.

These cute little spices bottles are a flea market find. I so love them!

The glass water pitcher is a vintage item and it's very dear to me as I have it from my grandmother - I believe it's about 40 years old.

Until living here I was used to having big kitchen rooms, but truth be told, I didn't really use them - well, except for eating. But I always believed that one should feel good in this room, happy, and prepare food with love and good thoughts. So, I guess it really doesn't matter the size, but what goes on in it and what come out. :)

Wrapping it pretty!

Yesterday, I was preparing some Bo3mia goodies for the journey to their new awesome owners. So, I got to thinking and realized I haven't shown you my packaging ritual yet. I really enjoy wrapping my creations, using lovely white glassine bags that I embellish myself.

I like to use different materials to decorate the bags, depending on the mood, occasion, the wrapped goodie or simply just my always present need for change. One detail I got really fond of is the delicate and sweet as a cupcake white paper doily, that you can also find in my products photos.

Everybody seems to have a crush on Japanese masking tape, and I have to admit I haven't escaped this wonderful mania! Really, you can use it for so many things, it's awesome!

Packaging and presentation is really important to me, so I like to take my time preparing lovely packages, writing a personal message and do my best so that the receiver will feel really pampered and special.

So, here it is, my oh-so-sacred packing ritual! :)

Where the yummy happens

Yes, that's right - the kitchen. For me, this is quite a special room. It's where I get to practice my hobby - bake cupcakes and other sweets - it's also where all the food gets prepared, and as I always believed that food should be cooked with love, care and patience, I feel that the room where all this happens should be a cozy-warm-nurturing place for all these.
In our lovely attic apartment, we have a very tiny kitchen - no room for a dinning table or anything like that, but I still feel quite happy there. It has all the other qualities I look for in a kitchen: it's cozy and functional.

Last night I finally got to watch Tom Ford's "A single man". You've probably already seen it, if not, I highly recommend that you do. This movie is so beautiful on every level.
Colin Firth is simply brilliant in the role of George, as in all his roles. And I must say I loved Julianne Moore's performance as well.
What I loved about this movie, besides the story and the wonderful actors, is the decor and cinematography of the whole thing. Some say that Tom Ford over-dressed the film, but personally I love it like this. Not only it manages to get you there, in those times (the action of the movie takes place in 1960 Los Angeles), but I feel it added to the drama of the story. For me, it is one of those movies where I get to savor every frame, every line, every single moment of it.

The design of the movie is simply wonderful. George's house is perfection and Charley's home, gorgeous. Oh, how I love her dressing room and the dress she wears when meeting with George.

I've started working on some new lovely outfits for Mia - summer is here and a girl needs her outfits, right?!
It was only when I finished coloring Mia's dress that I realised my inspiration came from a beautiful green dress with cute red accents that I used to have. Oh, how I loved that dress..it was so perfect for summer picnics and such.

I'm really happy with the ones with blossoms as I find them very fit for this season. As for the white ones in the background, I plan to use them for writing cute messages to my lovely clients! :)

When emotions get in the way

Although I have little time on my hands lately - time management isn't one of my strengths - I have this itch, that I need to create something, especially something new. I do have plans of experimenting with some new materials, but until then I started to play with beads and charms.

And even though I have this want of creating some monochrome items, somewhat different from what I've done so far, this is what came out of my hands and grip.

This is actually how I work. I don't use sketches, I just get to work at my oh-so-lovely desk, choose the materials I find myself in the mood to play with, I listen to some lovely music and always have tea around.
Sometimes it works, other times I just exercise and improve my skills. Of course, I do have something in mind when I start creating - it can be a color I keep obsessing about, or maybe a shape, other times it can be a certain technique or simply an idea.

I can honestly say that the accessories I create are a reflection of my state of mind and spirit. Yes, this is how transparent I am. :) If my work is all cheery and full of color this can be because if I feel under the weather I tend to stay away from making something. It's just like cooking, I feel that I need to put only positive thoughts and love in what I'm making in order for the result to be delicious.

Mr. Fox's new home

Last week I received an awesome package from a lovely and talented lady - Miss Daria from Kittenhood.

I carefully unwrapped the goodies and, as always, the content is simply great.
Mr. Fox, or should I say Herr Fuchs, moved to Munich. He now lives in an attic apartment, joining me in my everyday adventures. May I just say, this is the begining of a beautiful friendship. :)

As I'm having a color crush on pink and orange, I simply needed to have this lovely brooch from the Road Candy collection.

Also, I received a red gingham brooch, a Kittenhod sticker (what a great idea!) and a so-cute-tiny paper boat.

I'm such a handmade junkie! But what can I do, this stuff is really awesome and I always come back for more. It's not just that the products are so well made, it's that you can actually see that everything is made with care, attention to every detail and the packaging - well that's a-Christmas-joy right there.

Yes, I know - lately I kinda missed posting here. But, I have a reason for all this absence that's been going on: we had our parents over for a whole week. So, both me and Adi, we made a holiday out of it. We had such a good time, sunny weather and revisited some places in and around Munich that we love so much.

It's been quite a rainy weekend! And although this can easily ruin any plans that include spending the day outside, there is one thing I love about spring rain - the wonderful after rain smell and the fact that I have the perfect excuse to enjoy a cozy-lazy day with pampering and such. Ok, I guess there are two things I love about rainy days. :)

One thing I miss these days, and most spring/summer days, is a balcony or a terrace for a lovely escape with flowers and tea. But there is no reason why I can't indulge myself with some eye-candy deco. So, here I am, sharing my favorites in matter of balcony/terrace decor with you.

Cupcakes save the day!

Yes, yes..I know! I've been some sort of absent from the blog lately. It just so happens that I don't have any other excuse than the fact that I've been suffering from this tricky and way-to-common thing that is laziness.

Today it seems that I managed to simply snap out of it and all of a sudden I was in the mood to bake some cupcakes. I made some really yummy carrot cakes - fun and easy to make.

And since I went shopping for some of the ingredients, I couldn't help indulging myself with some lovely strawberries. They are my favorites after all.

Oh, and I've also been drawing new outfits for Mia, but I'll tell all about that in a next post.
Hm, maybe I wasn't that lazy after all. :P

Fashion is yummy

What was that old saying..ah, yes: an apple a day keeps dullness away! Or was it something about a doctor? :)
So, I guess that a skirt full of apples should be quite exciting. And it really is.

Mia is wearing a green silk top, a wonderful skirt with apple print, blue leather pumps and blue clutch both with a lovely apple applique, long necklace with blue pendant.

Also, I just realized that I didn't mention this before, but each Mia is hand drawn and hand cut on shrinking plastic, with lots of love and care as I really enjoy the whole process. And the best part is that each Mia has a message on the back. This particular one, as she is such a fashion gourmand, says simply: fashion is yummy!

Is it the optical illusion or just the simple fact that they are so much fun? Maybe it's the fact that they remind us of all things navy or French - depending on the color and style of course.

I do like stripes. Simple, colorful and especially the navy blue ones.

Drawing with bright colors

Lately I've been experimenting with the magical material that is shrinking plastic. It was originally made for kids as a mean to help them explore their creativity in the classroom and at home. As I let my inner child take over most of the time, it makes sense for me to try this new medium. :)
So, I started drawing Mia in different outfits and colors.
This shrinking plastic works pretty simple: it looks like your average piece of paper, only a bit harder and thicker, you draw on it, put in the oven, it shrinks 70% and tada!

I'm always looking for new ways and materials for Mia to express herself, that's why I like this one. Plus, it is quite fun to work with and the results are pretty cute. :)

Holiday in Southern Bavarian countryside

May I start by just saying that the Bavarian countryside is simply gorgeous. We had such a wonderful time in a lovely house, near the Hartsee lake. Just to get an idea, this is about 90 km from Munich.

We enjoyed the nature, the lakes, the surroundings, long walks in the woods, the lovely houses with almost perfect gardens. There were narrow roads, lovely weather and sunshine, homemade cupcakes, huge Bavarian lunches, grilling, two cute kittens.

This was all really lovely, but we didn't stop there. Just a 10 minute drive away we found the Chiemsee - a freshwater lake also called the Bavarian Sea. On this lake, there are two main islands: Fraueninsel (Lady's island) and Herreninsel (Gentleman's island). Lovely names, right?

We took the ferry to Fraueninsel first. This one is actually lived on, there is a small village, a bier garten, some really lovely rustic shops and a wonderful ceramic workshop settled in an old boathouse. This island in the smallest of the two, but really nice. You actually need only about 30 minutes to visit it all. :)

Next we visited the Herreninsel. This one is bigger, but not so many people actually live on it. On the island you can only find a wonderful palace - build by the eccentric king Ludwig II of Bavaria (also known as the Swan King or the Fairytale King). The palace was build as a replica of the Palace of Versailles (it was never meant to be a exact replica and in some aspects it surpasses it) and a temple to honor King Louis XIV, but it remained unfinished as the King died before its completion. Even so, this a really gorgeous palace worth visiting. The rooms that are finished are really fit for a king, build in such a way to enchant its visitors.
I was most impressed by a wonderful chandelier made from Meissen porcelain (apparently this is the largest in the world) beneath which there was a really clever mobile table decorated with a vase full of the most gorgeous porcelain roses I've ever seen.

It was a really lovely getaway, but now we're back to business as usual. Well, hopefully with some more inspiration and definitely with the plan to make our home more plant-friendly.

Easter is only two days away and I'm getting ready for some egg dyeing and baking. This year, we'll celebrate Easter away from home, in a lovely house near Munich with dyed Easter eggs, cupcakes, good food and lots of chocolate. We'll make a short holiday out of it. But, first I would like to share with you some really cool DIY projects and some inspirational decorating ideas, all for a cozy-happy Easter.

In some countries, including Germany, there is this lovely Egg Tree tradition. All you need are some willow branches and egg-shaped decorations or even better, tiny chocolate eggs.

Why are Mondays so slow?

Sometimes, a Monday is just what I need to get my creative groove on. Mondays stand for new beginnings, the promise of all the wonderful things we'll do in that new and fresh week and if it's sunny, well then it's almost perfect. This is not the case of this Monday. This particular one is sunny, but slow and although the promise for all the amazing things I have planned for this week still stands, today nothing goes right. It's one of those days, you know?

This white Easter bunny is a flea market find and just perfect to help me decorate the Easter table. Isn't he a cutie?
As I was on a quick spree at the flea market on Saturday, I didn't get the chance to browse a lot but I did manage to find this lovely green leaf-shaped plate that I just love.

Glimpses into the wonderful world of Daria

As promised, today I have a special treat for you - a sneak peek into the wonderful home of Daria from Kittenhood. Her work comes to life in a lovely apartment in Cluj, which she shares with her boyfriend and her curious and cute cat Lizzi.
I'm really glad that Daria accepted to share glimpses of her lovely home with us. The apartment is rented and all the furniture belongs to the owners and Daria didn't want to change a thing, and by looking at the pictures I'm sure you'll see why.

This wooden desk is really amazing and it's actually the background for some of her photos that I love so much.
As she is a very generous spirit, Daria shares the desk with her boyfriend. So, most of the times she works on her computer on the couch or coffee table in the living room, where she always keeps near her adorable teapot, Moleskine and calendula cream. :)

Most of her creative handmade work happens on a cute little table near the bedroom window.

I just love the vintage dresser and the lovely carousel. Oh, and did you notice that cute teal bunny near the carousel? What a lovely color contrast!

Daria confessed her love for all kinds of cute and charming boxes and tins. This is a love I also share and it's true that our supplies and cute small thingies seem way more magical in such beautiful packages.

These stickers are really cute and fun, and though sometimes the Kittenhood girl changes her dress (a girl needs variety, right?), you will always find them in a package from Daria. :)

Also, another great detail is this really awesome pick-up player which Daria uses to listen to the radio while crafting - habit recently developed during Thing-a-day.

I find her workspace quite inspiring and charming, with all the great small details, vintage furniture and romantic light.

Blue Easter eggs

Back home, we have this lovely tradition, where me and my mom dye the Easter eggs together on the Good Friday. And there were mostly eggs dyed red as we like to keep the traditions alive.

But, this year I want to try something new - color and texture wise. This week was my turn to post a DIY project on Breslo, so I experimented a bit and dyed a few eggs in lovely shades of blue. Here you can check out the tutorial (yeah, it's in Romanian).

I like the result and plan to have more pastel shades at our Easter table.

Random thoughts for the day

Lately it's been really hard for me to make decisions. You know, like what kind of shoes to buy, if another lace dress is what I really need or what the next theme for my creations should be. Does this ever happen to you? Just over-thinking stuff without taking any actions?

It's been such a rainy day, perfect for a bit of introspection and a chat with my best friend. Things do seem brighter now and I guess the best thing to do is to get out there and just make my choice. Hopefully it will be a pretty one. :)

I believe it's been a while since I've last shown you my new additions in matter of accessories or other cute stuff. But don't go thinking I didn't add anything new to my wardrobe. As a matter of fact, lately I pampered myself with some really cool things.

My new oh-so-cool "Keep calm and carry on" notebook with a lovely poppy brooch from Cinnamon&Cloves. As you can see I'm getting more and more serious about that time management issue I have. :)

I simply love this blouse I recently got from H&M and it goes really well with my amazing BibaBijoux jewelry.

As you probably now by now, I'm a romantic at heart. So a lace dress is a must in my wardrobe. I bought this one from Missguided.co.uk. The perfect accessories for my cute dress came this week in a very lovely package from sweet Miss B.

Weekend getaway

Usually, during the weekend we try to stay away from the computer as much as possible and go for long walks, a day in the park or visit a friend. And now that spring is here this is all easier to do.

This weekend we visited a friend in Innsbruck (the bridge over the Inn) and we had a great time, as always.
I really love this city for its wonderful location - right in the heart of the Alps - and the amazing scenery.

I only took pictures on Sunday. We started the day with a sweet breakfast.

Then we went out for a walk and had the best ice cream ever!
And here are some pics I took of beautiful buildings and details.

We enjoyed the sunny afternoon at a coffee bar with a Spezi (coke with orange juice) and we had this cute flower pot on our table.

It was a great way to spend our weekend: in good company, with great food and a view.

I really like this and now that I come to think of it more, all the interiors really reflect their owners character. No wonder they give award for set designs. :)

Do you remember Nip/Tuck? It was a really exciting and fun show. I love Christian's bedroom because it's so stylish and modern! What I love most about it is the shower behind the bed. Now, that's sexy!

Tulips in a cup

Adi brought me some tulip bulbs from Holland in December. Somehow we kept forgetting to plant those babies, but we finally did it and I'm really happy that they are growing a little bit each day. It's really awesome to witness their rising. :)
I plated five tulips in this lovely cup-flower pot. I like to think of them as spring in a cup.

Well, as you can see I discovered textures. I really like them - so easy to use and they add a great touch to pictures. In the picture above you can see my Russian vintage pocket watch and in the background my new and very cute navy bag. These are my favorite things these day. What are yours? I would love to know!

My weekend

I hope you all enjoyed a lovely weekend! I sure did.
My weekend was happy colored, especially because our awesome Kitten tees arrived on Friday - "Soldier of love" for me and a really awesome&geek one for Adi. I really love Cristina's work and I admire her a lot as a person. This is why I'm really happy that we get to share thoughts and dreams, even if it's via email. :)

I wanted to share the beautiful colors that shaped my weekend, but as you don't always find polymer clay in the shades you want I made my own. One of the greatest things about this medium is that you can blend colors, play a little and make any shade you want. So, I made the cute and tiny flowers above. Some of them will decorate charms and maybe Mia's dresses, while others will make packages pretty.

Also, on Sunday we went for a walk, to enjoy the lovely weather, to the Nymphenburg Palace, which is a 30 minute walk from our place.

Spring is just starting to take over, but we did find delicate pansies around the palace. Simply lovely!
